Help squeaking noise from top of engine area!
« on: 15 January 2007, 18:59 »
I have replaced my head gasket on my mk2 gti 8v and after replacing it i found that there is a high pitched squeaking noise from around the top of the engine, near to the inlet manifold/breather, was just wondering if anyone had any ideas. When i increase revs it dies down slightly but is too loud to drive.
Thanks

sounds like a vacuum leak, check the rubber bung for the PCV (looks like a flying saucer ) in the rocker cover, its probably split ;)

both, the bung usually splits round the edge where it sits in the rocker cover.  Best thing to do is pull out the PCV and check the bung by removing it!

There are vacuum hoses just behind the rocker which go to the FPR & airbox, check those are all hooked up.  There are also 2 blanked of vac hoses, on on the front and another round the back.

After ages of tinkering i solved the problem but found another. The throttle body bolts werent on tight enough which was making the squeeking noise. But now i have got the vacuum hoses on the wrong way round and am unsure on which go where from the t section and to the right of the inlet manifold
any help would be great

the hose comes out of tbody, then runs to a T piece which runs to the FPR on the fuel rail, then round to the airbox.  The other connection on the front is blanked off, and there is also another connection on the back of the tbody which is blanked.
Don't matter which way round you fit em, but make sure the vac lines are in tip top condition or the car will perform poorly :)

ok i ve got the three on the t shaped connection all on ok now, but there are two conncetions to the right of the inlet manifold of which only one is being used, the one being used (the right one) it goes to the back somewhere. is there only supposed to be one in use here or both being used? the left one is not blanked off its just a small connection to the air

the connection on the left that is not actually connected at the moment is sucking air does mean that the hose is the wrong connection?
cheers
