Are breathers ment to be sealed ontop?

when i cleaned mine i noticed an air leak on the top corner of the breather.

Could this lead to airleaks also?

[4 cylinder 8v fuel injected 205 killing machine]

yay   the joy I gave it all a good clean (in the bath, divoirce proccedings in the post I am told!) took it for a good blast got home checked the filler cap and its lovley and black   .Blue MK2 my breather was complketly sealed testoment to this was the ball ache i had getting it apart, I belive it has an effect on the engine as i had the engine running (warming her up) when I fitted mine and it made a noticable difference to the revs.

Well cheers for the help one and all now just need to sort out the red hot rear wheel that smells of brake dust, I wonder what that could be.................................
