Questions on achieving more BHP from 1.8T
« on: 14 January 2007, 16:02 »
Haven't been on for a while, other commitments have left my car in the garage for a few months.

Anyway i'm looking at getting more power out of my car, it's a v reg fly by wire model. 150bhp. Only engine mods are forge DV and an oettinger back box which was on the car when i bought it. I'm going to be getting it re mapped soon but thought about getting other ways of increasing the performance before doing this.

What are my options as far as uppgrading the turbo? I havent got a huge budget, £1k maybe.

Can anyone give me a little help with my options, i don't want to spend £500 on a mod that will gain me 10bhp and i'm not interested in an induction kit filter cose they make to much noise, but would a k&n panel filter be worth investing in?

Thanks, Sam

a green panel filter and a good remap should see 200 or sometimes 205-207
try getting a ko3s turbo off ebay or even a ko4 (but u might have to do a bit of work for that)

anything more than 200bhp is gonna cost quite a bit of money

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

I would ideally like to get a bit more out of it than just a re map. I thought i heard somewhere that putting on a ko3s would only increase my BHP by 5hp on another site i'll see if i can find the link later.

Is the ko3s a like for like installation  or would i need to change some other bits?

Think you'll find you already have the k03s turbo.

Have a read of this http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=48267.msg380301#msg380301

Then try the search function to get a broad idea of whats available.. pretty much everything has been discussed here before, far too much information to type up again

THanks for that linky topher i did search for good hour but didn't find that post and to be honest like you say there are so many posts regarding this same question , a lot of them not being much help at all, it was kind of like a needle in a haystack situation.

You already kind of answered this question but i will ask it anyway just to get a clear answer if you dont mind. the seat leon cupra T/ audi TT  claims 225 bhp from the same lump is this correct?

If so then i presume the differances are what you listed in the previous link i:e intercooler, downpipe injectors?

Can these bits in particular the intercooler be taken off one of these models and fit a golf, or is that all to easy?

Also, what is an FPR?

I have a mate who is a VW tech but his knowledge doesnt seem to stretch past the standard equipment, but i could run this infomation over with him and see if between the 2 of us we can sort something out. My next step is to get it on the RR and see what its kicking out as i bought the car with a few bits done to it already but not sure if it may have been tweaked under the bonnet as he also said mine is quite quick for a standard 150 although i thought mine would have the KO3 being on a v plate FBW AGU.

Sorry about all the questions, but this is my first turbo car and to be honest i'm not to familiar with it all.

Thanks for your time,
Sam  :nerd:

Hi,

yes sorry i got that wrong, not thinking straight. either that or i'm stupid :)

So if i could get a ko3s can i expect the same performance as the anni model ( 180bhp stock, 220ish revo'd) ? Also which revo software would i need as there is a price differance and a quite a differance in performance.

I have been reading up on the ko4 but i'm not sure if its worth all that money and tinkering about tbh.

I'm also looking at the 312mm brake conversion, would you say this is a nessesity if i were to upgrade ko3s and revo, or are my 288mm's sufficient?

Thanks for the help lad's, mucho appeciato

Sam
