Problem with inherited car.
« on: 14 January 2007, 05:28 »
Hi folks,

A newbee accidental enthusiast here.....

I have just inherited a Mk2 GTI 16V and I consider myself very fortunate!

I have always had a soft spot for the mark 2 Golf. I used to have a Syncro 1.8 ( before it was written off!

I do have a couple of immediate problems though, which I hope you good folk would help me out with, please?
Whilst I have the service records, receipts etc. the keys or immobiliser fob cannot be found....

According to the paperwork, it was fitted with a Meta M36T

Can I get keys cut from the VIN number or would I be best sourcing a new lock set?

Any other helpful suggestions would also be welcome.

I think I will enjoy this new unexpected project!

TIA

Nige.

BTW Re the ludicrous posting time....I am not normally an insomniac like this......I just seem to have picked up a painful arm injury & can't sleep  :embarassed:

speak to VW they might be able to cut the key from the V5, if not I think the locks have a 4 digit code on them, which the dealer can use...
A MK3 set wont fit I don't think!
