New to the world of GTi
« on: 13 January 2007, 22:07 »
Hello everyone, after a few years of owning a mk4 polo and with my rate of insurance gradually dropping as i reach my early 20s i decided it was time to get some serious speed. Today i put down a deposit on a 89 Mk2 Golf GTi 16v and its a pretty tidy interior wise for its age and theres no dents or rust visable but since its a GTi and may have boy racer history i wondered if theres anything i should check or look at replacing. The car runs fine except for the clutch could do with replacing but i basically need to know what needs to be done to keep it running well. It has a few mild modifications such as a debadged grill which i hate so its lucky he kept the original 16v one which i'll be refitting soon and i'll be putting the VW badge and the golf GTi badges back on the rear as it only has the 16v one at the moment which doesnt look too great by itself. Also i heard the 0-60 on the mk2 is just over 7 seconds with a top speed of 130mph does that still apply today as i know cars depreciate in speed over the years. Any help with this will be appreciated, thanks!
