Red Mark 3s - Any pics and what's the paint like?!

I've been given the opportunity to buy a 1.8 GL as a daily/second family car.  I've yet to see it, but it's a 1996 N plate described as red.  I won't go into details about history etc, but what were the reds available on the Mark 3 was it tornado red and flash red, and then the burgundy?  Did VW sort the issue with the reds at this point in production i.e. fade and oxidation etc? 

Does anyone have any tidy pics of their red rides?!

Hi RaKer,

I have worked for VW/Audi now for 16 years and know about the red problems!

But, I now own a 1998 Golf GTI - Flash red which has brilliant paintwork.

I have not really seen any problems on Red cars in the vw group since 1994 ish unless they have had body repairs or paint work done cheaply e.t.c.

I do no that the later red cars get a coat of laquer now.

Best thing is to inspect the car, and make sure it has had no major paint repairs e.t.c.

I had a flame red 96 polo.. and it would go pinky.. but application of "mer" sorted it proper good

My last golf was a 1994 and red...The worst bit was all it's life it was parked beside someone's house and the roof was 2 different shades of red (half in shade and half in sun)... took a bit of t-cut but it did polish up with a bit of hard work.. The colour was called tornado red

Saffa - am seeing the car Saturday, so will know more then - cheers for the info.  Am not adverse to a bit of hard work as my Jetta is actually RED!  But man, other than a full on session with a Porter Cable and a new coat of lacquer, it's real hard to keep on top of!

i just kept it toped up with plenty of polish and she stayed shining...and it gave me practice for my black one i have now!!

Turns out that this Mark 3 - when I actually get to see it - is Burgundy?

Hmmm - not sure about this colour?  Anyone detailed one/owned one with good results?
