Hey,

Im in college in Limerick but from Clonmel so not too far away at all. Im after developing an awful gra for the Mk II GTI and came accross the site so said Id join up. To be honest the reason I joined is that at the moment Im driving a 01 TDI (90bhp) golf and thinkin about changing to the Mk II GTI. Guess Im just kind of worried about changin down to an old car. Im a student so I cant afford big maintenance costs and so on! Any advice!?  :undecided:

Well to be perfectly honest, you're spot on about it being more maintenance because it's an old car - but I'm a skint student too and I'm runnning one so go for it! It will take a fair degree of attention to keep it running even on a tidy example, but if you're prepared to do that then you won't be facing any more risk than on a newer car IMO. The good thing about old cars is maintenance can be cheap if you go about it the right way.

He's right , things go wrong on mine all the time , but with a little help from people here and ebay/scrapyards theres not much you cant do "on the cheap" with a socket set and haynes manual (or even better , the bentley one)

Thanks for the advice
The thing about the maintenance is that to be totally honest I know nothing about cars that way.....I just know what I like and know how to drive them! But I do know a retired VW mechanic whos done work on the cheap for me before so it mightnt be a huge problem. Below is a car Ive spotted for sale up north. Havent much details on spec, but asking price is 4000euro.

only 1... how much is that in real money?

only messing... i really quite like that, the colour coding looks good!!

id reccomend taking your dub mechanic friend with you, nothing better than an experienced non-baised opinion when buying a car.
