Doc,

Found this site from a link in the VW Vortex forum:

http://www.parrotkits.com/steeringwheel.html

What's your opinion on the capabilities of this interface and have you any experience with wiring the Parrot CK3000 Evolution handsfree kit into a Golf ?

I've emailed the manufacturers today to verify the capability in UK cars. Seems like a neat idea to be able to use the existing MFSW telephone button instead of the units own remote controller.

Thanks

Cass

Just received this response - very prompt and professional I must say:

"The SW100C plus VW cable is $174.95 plus $34 Global Priority shipping and handling to the UK. It is compatible with the UK spec VW.  You already have the 3000 Evo so you are all set. I can send you an invoice which can be paid by credit card and your order can ship today. Best, Howard

I love the idea of this although on this page at the bottom (http://www.parrotkits.com/steeringwheel.html) it shows what looks like a picture of the left hand side of my MFSW and suggests this is not compatible? Also, would the numbers display somewhere or would you need to keep your parrot for that?

Just out of interest Cass, where did you mount your Parrot as I would like to get one.

Thanks!

I don't have the steering wheel control but have had a Parrot CK3100 fitted to my GTi; it's fantastic, with the ability to store my phonebook in it, voice commands etc.  The sound quality is leagues ahead of the Nokia CK7W bluetooth kit that I had in my Toledo, albeit that wasn't used with a Nokia handset.

I had the Parrot mounted (ooerr missus) between the gearstick and the front cupholder where it's out of sight of the toerag brigade - it's a very neat job and, whilst the screen is obviously out of my eyeline, the voice commands make up for that.

This interface will only work with MFSW's which have the single telephone button (presume this is newer/current models as my MY2007 has this). As far as I am aware the Parrot CK3000 Evolution has voice activated/dial/receive number announcements but the CK3100 has a visual display which shows the numbers on the screen - obviously you would need to mound this in a position to see it when driving.

Haven't received/fitted the Parrot yet but I intend to put the unit in behind the Sat Nav, similar to the Doc's Nokia installation guide. The steering wheel interface removes the need to fit the Parrot remote control, but if I had to fit that I would put it in the front storage/cup holder compartment, hidden out of sight under the sliding cover (I prefer the stealth look).

Also got this further response from the interface manufacturers:

"If you install your 3000 before getting our interface, just don't cut off the Parrot connectors or mangle your factory wiring.  Our VW cable not only has the 3 leads for the steering wheel controller but also installs your Parrot in your car plug and play with only one connection to make - 12V switched voltage."

Thanks for all the useful info. Couple of other questions for those who know. I assume the parrot puts the sound through the stereo but what about the microphone, where does that go?

I currently have a tomtom 710 that has hands free bluetooth phone use but it is rubbish and no one I phone can here me (unless they are pretending  :nerd:).

Thanks!

yes the parrot does goes through the front speakers, I heard on some car kits it goes through all speakers and can be distorted.  the mic can go the A pillar.  However I had mine put in the middle, by the rear view mirror, as I heard it could interfer with the side airbag sensors on the A pillar.  this could be bullsh!t, but by putting it in the middle, it enables the passenger to be heard too.

hope that helps.

Cheers Doc - I'll get myself a Parrot CK3000 Evo from eBay and then sort out the MRSW interface from the States. Will let you all know how the installation goes in due course, hopefully with some pics as well

I have the parrot CK3100 fitted in my 06 GTI but it doesn't work with the mfsw telephone button. Is there a way to get them to work together??
