Buying advice GT TDI 150
« on: 04 January 2007, 18:52 »
Hi guys,

First post so be kind.

Viewed and really liked a 2002 Golf GT TDI its covered 78k miles and is at a reasonable price.

Here is the question, the chap whos selling the car has stated its being chipped to 180bhp by a VW garage.

Is this possible?Wasnt sure that VW 'chipped' cars.

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't buy a chipped car as it suggest that its been ragged and abused.

also double check it is a 150 and not a 130 thats been chipped to 180.

i spent about 4 months searching for my TDI 150 because i wanted a specific colour spec etc.

i'd recommend taking your time and not rushing to buy the first one you find

Good advice, the 130 is actually a better all round buy in my opinion :)

Btw I am flogging mine in the next month or so!!

and you'd never know you had a 130

I mainly went for the 150 as when my mates are talking about maybe going for a fabia vrs or megan dci both 130, i wanted to be able to leave them in my 'dirty smoke' plus i could afford to buy, run and insure the 150 so thought may as well go for the top end one. I also find that you don't see that many 150's too so you get the 'exclusive' feel i see loads of 130's and i've only seen one other car with the TDI 150 and that was a boro.

the 130 is still a very good car and i think you can get a higher % age power increase if you chip it that the 150, but if you want the 'best' the go for the 150

The 150 has the 1.8T's lowered suspension as well.

What would you say a round-about dealership price is for a 130 GTTDI ? I test drove a chipped (180bhp) 130 today and was really pleased. its got 68k on the clock and the place is after 8,500 for it. is this silly expensive? was well impressed with the power though. damn.

well i paid £8700 for my TDI 150, 2002, 68K, full leather, xenon's, sun-roof, FSH etc basically the only things it could have had it didn't was cruise, auto dimming mirror, climate and the centre arm rest.

so i'd say 8500 for a chipped 130 is too much, like i said before take your time and you'll find yourself exactly what you want.

if you're not already registered, register with http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ that way you can do proper searches, dont just search for GT TDI but try TDI 150, 150, GTTDI etc yeah you might have to sift through the results but it gives you something to do at lunch and you'll soon get an idea of the price range and what kit to expect for your £
