Niggles I have with my R32
« on: 03 January 2007, 17:38 »
Dont get me wrong, I love my R32 to bits, but having done a fair few miles in it now, a few niggles are appearing.

1. The Steering Growning. I have read up a bit on this and will be speaking to my dealer very soon in a bid to cure it. Mainly hear it on parking.

2. Air Vent Rattle. The centre air vent rattles occassionally, although I cant hear it when the volume is up, its still there isnt it!

3. Changing Down Gear. I have the DSG box and its great! One critisism is that when it changes down, you get that lovely throttle blip but the car also surges forward when it does this! Surely this needs to be automatically revved in a neutral state to prevent this as you would do when double de clutching?

4. DSG Gear Select. 1st or 2nd? Mine cant decide somethimes when im slowing to do a right turn for instants. 1st i believe should be for pulling away only, 2nd surfices for any othere slow speed!

5. Seats. I have the leather recaros and they are fabulous. Comfortable, supportive and look the biz. But having a 3door, they have a tilt handle in the gaps at the top of the seat and the slide is under where your feet may be. Problem? well with most seats on 3 door cars, when you tilt the seat, it automatically slides - these dont and you have to lean down to grab the handle (which incidently is on the far side of the seat) and whilst pulling this you have to slide the seat yourself, which is a bit of a job! I can live with it as its not often i use the rear seats (hense a 3 dr) but life would be easier .......

6. Auto Lights. Again, good idea, but when on this setting, they come on but take a while to go back off again!

Just to highlight again, these are only small niggles (bar the steering) and by no means a slagging off for what i think is a wonderful, solid car.

I have had 5 Impreza's and am used to speed, but i would have thought that VW could of got alot more out of a 3.2 V6 - sometimes feels sleepy!

I've only had my R a few days and i've decided that it is THE best car i've owned so far. I 've driven 480 miles in 3 days and i'm loving it, ok it's not got the sensation of pure speed that my old mitsubishi evo had but it ticks all the boxes. What about that fantastic engine noise? totally addictive   Outstanding road manners, courtesy of the 4 motion. I've not heard any really annoying rattles yet but i dont think it would affect my judgement of the car. So to be honest, i really can't see me changing to anything else, except another R in a couple of years.

Steering groaning, SNAP !

Only at very low speed, ie parking etc, reversing out of the garage etc. APS also mentioned it when I had the cruise retro fitted, aparently the front suspension bushed are fitted too tight - covered under warrently, not yet had the time for the car to go in

For the first reply, I did not want to give the wrong impression, I do love the car and will get another. The points are only minor and can all be sorted Im sure. I too am used to alot more aggressive performance with the previous Subaru, but this had so many other fantastic features that wins me over. My problems did not start until i had covered 481miles!! Only joking, they appeared as i got used to the car.

Second reply, steering will be looked at soon as i can get back to the dealer. If anyone else has experienced this and cured it, please post up. I will once mine is done.

In summary, an alround brilliant car and will defo get another
