Anybody got any idea??

hello people,

  Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a new keyand fob thing cut and coded because ive just brought a 1.6 16v mk4 golf and the key fob is pretty nakerd 'vw' sign worn off etc..just curious may just leave the fob as it is but wouldnt mind a nice new one! haha  :grin:

Got any ideas on price??  :huh:

you can get the spare fobs off egay

but to get them programed from vw is about 70-80 quid

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, do you know what it would cost me to buy the fob aswel from the dealer? just out of easiness lol.  Will probably jsut buy one from ebay though!

possibly about 150

but if you get one off ebay make sure it is a uncut one so you can get it cut to your door locks (which vw will probably have to do also)

oh right cool, ebay it will be then! lol will then sort out the alarm etc and put it on fob? Do you know how they cut it for lock? they must reada code or something that tells them?

Sorry its my first car and im a bit newbie!! lol

you will have to produce your v5 document and probably proof of ID ie bill/passport so they know you are not going to rob a car and they know it is yours  :grin:

my key's logo is worn too, i'm going to live with it for the time being, however my plan is to get a new one from flea bay.

take my worn key apart (as if you were going to change battery)

put back together using the original half and the new half with logo on

this way i'll only need to get the blade cut as the half with the battery in contains all the electronics that would need to be programmed.

thats the plan, if that wont work then let me know.

and oh dear.. im an idiot lol i kind of thought it was driving license lol obviously not had my test yet!!
