Help - Engine temp light coming on + car using a bit of oil

Hi Folks

Got a 1999 Golf GTI T, 106k miles.

About 2 months ago I started my car and after a few seconds the oil temp light came one, so I checked the oil level and was on the min mark... Topped it up and never had a problem since. (checked the oil ever week since and always been the same amount).

Went to move my car today and same thing, light came on and oil level down to min...

Checked under the car and no leaks so wondering whats going on ? coming out the exhaust ?

I know that a golf engine thats firing oil throught the exhaust will cost a bomb to fix but does anyone know what the issue could be ?

Engine performance is still the same and not seen any blue smoke out the back, but just weird how the oil has dropped so sudenly since i last checked (9 days ago).

Are you sure it's the engine oil light and not the temperature light? As my Mk4 started to do that and it turns out to be a faulty sensor in the expansion/header tank. Is it doing it at the moment with the cold weather, or does it do it when it's warm too?

It is def my oil temp light thats coming on and only a few seconds after I have started the car.

But the car does seem to be using oil...

Checked and def not coming out the exhaust so totaly stumped.

Might take it into a garage and get it on the ramp for a good look underneath.

Could well be a faulty sensor as well

Works out I aint leaking any oil (me being a mupet and not checkin on a flat surface  )

Must be the sensor, found the light is coming on more often and I just turn the car off and on again it stops.
