I know this is a stupid question but i dont want to go yanking on something that wont budge, to remove the gear knob do you simply pull it off, i have tried lightly and not much moved so i just wanted to make double sure that's how it comes off.

Give it a really good twist...they have a plastic insert you will need to remove.....It will budge with a bit of force!!!! I cut the rubber gernob thing off mine and removed the plastic thing seperatly

NO, they dont just pull off!!!! They twist off anti clockwise but do take some undoing. Once you break the initial bond it will twist off nicely.
