Bought my VR6 about two months ago and both rear electric windows have packed up?? !! Front are fine, didn't know if this problem is easily fixed or a garage effort ??

Cheers lads

On my car i sometimes have a similar issue with my rear windows . What ive found the problem to be is the rear window control in the centre console , there is a switch in between the up and down switches , mines a bit dodgy. The way i can tell if the windows will work or not is that in fault condition the rear door mounted switches do not light up when the car is running .

The button your talking about mate in the middle of the 2 rear window switches is to lock the rear window buttons so only you can open them from the front (a safety feature) sounds to me like the unit is a bit duff if you know someone with a mk3 borrow theres for a day and see if it still dose it or if your a bit flush just get one from a scrapers don't think they will be much....

oh your rear windows do they click when you try to use them if they do it will be a brake in the door loom. unscrew the cap and look for a loose wire that is usually the problem for them both to have gone

I've seen quite a few mk3 golfs and polos or same age with electric window problems and alot of electric sunroof problems. Must be one of those common problems like the rust on the door seals on mk3 golfs.

Common fault on mk3s this  Ive just replaced my drivers side lifter (regulator) on the 3dr.
With the car on, try the switch at the door itself, if you hear a "click" the motor is ok. Its the lifter that is stuffed.
Always good to have a mate hold the glass as you fit the new lifter. Getting past the intrusion bar can be a bit of a pain though.
Be patient

The front lifters in the 3 and 5 door mk3s are the same part, the rears in the 5dr are smaller and different.

If mine stuff out again i will upgrade to good old windys, like the early mk3s had.

Funny you should say that bsting i was talking about winders today and how great they used to be. No worries no problems in the cold when your windows freeze up ahh them were the days....
