I belive that you can do a simple test.
1. Start the car, let it idle for a while, see if it fluctuates and if it's ok
2. Turn it off and disconnect the MAF
3. Start tge car again and let it idle, if it smoother and doesn't jump about it's certainly the MAF.
I think though, if you disconnect the MAF the engine warning light triggers so you need to get it re-set.
