mk2 8v tunning
« on: 19 January 2004, 00:19 »
??? Hello I am new to both this site and to golfs I have a mk2 8v gti 1990 and would like as many tips as anyone may wish to give me in giving it better acceleration performance. I am already running a K&N plus it is lowered. I am not sure if the engine has been tuned to match with the K&N although it recently went through a m.o.t and had to be tuned to let it meet the eu emissions standards could it now be de-tunned?. Any help you can give me would be kindly appreciated, the less money the better!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx in advance ... Damian

de tuned no hes just adjusted the co level at the airflow meter.... doesnt make much difference to performance...

the ecu automaticly adjusts the air to fuel ratio...
this is what the air flow meters for to measure the temp of the air and how much is the engine sucking in... the ecu montiors infomation sent from the temp sender, airflow meter, knock sensor, hall sender, ignition module, throttle sensors,
and then the ecu works out how much fuel needs to go in.. and also keeps the ignition timing spot on....(once set ok) it sets itsself!

without replacing parts you cant de tune an engine.
you can mess with the timming, co, and idle level...
the fueling is ecu set.......

he's more than likely tuned the engine to make it pass the emissions checked the spark plugs and rotor arm etc etc...

to make then car run as vw intended it called tuning!
to make it go like a rocket its called performance tuning!
welcome to the dub world.........enjoy! ;D ;D

Cheers for the advice I would be gratfull if you could point me in the right direction for cams, chips and a good performance tunner near me (peterborough) Thanks again.

P.S I think the beast may prefer lockets after a lengthy discscusion with her it was apparent that airwaves were a little too much for her 8v!. :ohttp:// :)
