rough idle. done the checks but still a problem

8v pb engine

revs go up/down when at the lights

checked for air leaks etc etc

adjusted the idle

cleaned out throttle blaa de blaa...

cleaned the isv out with petrol


ive always managed to sort the problem on my mk2 but this has got me.

Im sure im missing something :rolleyes:

I dont have a spare isv lying about so cant test that :sad:


any other tips? :smiley:

Sounds like the throttle cable is too tight, the wiring to your throttle switches has snapped, or the switch itself isn't clicking when the throttle is closed.  Have a read of my MK2 digifant tuneup guide ;)

Try your idle control valve. Remove it and clean with carb cleaner, even better if replaced £5 from vw. Use cotton buds to clean where the valve sits.( Also with carb cleaner)
Worked a treat on mine.

blue thats the wide open throttle switch, the idle switch is underneath :)

id go with replace isv on this one johnnys not often wrong but i had problems where at idle it would jump upto about 2000 rpm and sit there for no reason then slowly go back down on its own.
