I'm having that problem too, even if it is the heater matrix its not a hard job AT ALL, you dont have to take the dash out. So should be cheap enough, mines getting done next week, only £34 for the matrix from andrew page.  :nerd:

Flushed my matrix todaya nd replaced the valve and it pretty uch didnt do sweet FA gives me soem ehat but nothing to write home aobut, and at least the lukewarm stays now  balls..

after much deliberation and pushing by rubjonny, stories of nobody ever knowing of thei amtrix to die witht his, many mk2s not ahving it done etc, it seems fair enough jsut t chenge the hoses and elminate the valve, considering one end of the metal valve on mine is chipped out by a huge chunk to

changed the bypass vavle, and still not heat. I think I need to change the expansion tank cap, because I haven't got any pressure in the tank.

so plan is tommorrow
1. purchase cap
2. bled of the system see if this helps

you arent going to warm up the water, or have it moving witohut a running engine, aty least not on a 1.3 cause the waterpump is driven by the cambelt.

thats why you have the initial bit of cold air till it all warms up then you get warm bowers of course..

1 Lp, make sure you get the blue cap from VW i chagned mine from a blackone after being advised, was the best thing I did, my old one was rusted solid so the little plate didnt even move..

No problem mate. If you come to change the cambelt I recommend cahnging the pump at the same time as it's the tensioner for one.. Mine was so badly rusted in it took 6 guys trying many different ways to get it out, ending up on a lad getitng a big bar to smash it out.. even the O Ring had rusted over.. it's on my project page

Just a little tip if you come to it anyrate
