I bought an ex demo 06 plate gt 1.4 tsi 170 from the stealers , from day 1 the car didn't agree with me, the engine imo is very erattic, power delivery is very raw, not at all refined in any sense, at idle revs the super charger dis-engages (for economy purposes). But on touch the of throttle theres an annoying audible clicking noise from the engine as it re-engages, also there is a distinct lag and an almost jurk in power when you need it , and don't be fooled by the figures, vw claim 39 mpg , on steady everyday driving i was seeing 320 to a tank maximum, so why the big ha ha then vw, this car is under spec'ed and overpriced , i also had the misfortune of aquireing a rogue , it had a slight judder on the clutch at biting point, stealers wanted to try new clutch and flywheel but could'nt guarantee it would cure it, HELLO only 3000 miles on the clock , obviously i wasn't too impressed so i opted to return the vehicle as they operate a 30 day no quibble exchange policy and paid an extra 2k for an ex demo GTI , and was i glad i did, its like a totally different car, having already owned a mk4 1.8t gti i was used to performance but the handling on the mk5 is unreal , all i can honestley say is i don't really see the point of the gt tsi its only 2k cheaper but has minimal spec , 1 insurance group lower , and no amazing difference in economy plus your mates will still laugh at you when you say its a 1.4 no matter how hard you try re-assuring them it is a hybrid phoenomenom.
