MK4 2001 vs MK4 2002

I just bought an MK4 2001 GTI. The specs read that it comes with 150HP.
The specs for the 2002 read that it comes with 180HP.
Can you guys tell me what accounts for this extra 30 HP.
Is it true that if I replace my 2001 turbo with the turbo from a 2002  I will automatically get that 30HP.

I dont think it's a different turbo, just re-mapped ECU. Around £500.00 will get the 150bhp models to over 200bhp just by plugging in a laptop.

Yeah thats what i was about to say. the standard 1.8t is 150bhp but the anniversary addition is 180 bhp. I dont think changing the turbo will make much difference tbh  :smiley:

I have a feeling that they upped the power on later cars to 180bhp but they were not technically Anniversary's.  :undecided:

Yes, there were a few NON-Anni versions with 180 horses.

it was mostly the run out gti's that had 180bhp so probably 2003 onwards and they only built the anniversary on a 02 and 52 reg
