Wet Floor Behind Drivers Seat...

I guess this is a typical question for all you dubbers out there 

I have a 5 door mk 2, I cant seem to find the source of the water leak that is turning my rear passenger floor (behind drivers seat) into a reservoir.
Its not just a little bit of water..which is starting to annoy me as items that were on the floor are now waterlogged lol

The window seal is damaged, it seems about 50mm too short, the previous owner had stuck general purpose silicone in the gap as a temporary measure...and then i came along and replaced the silicone with proper window sealant..now i agree that siliconing up the seal is a "amature" way to do things...but its Xmas and I'm on apprentice wage lol <-- good excuse ey 
I will be replacing all seals soon though, even with the extortionate price they cost...

The problem is still there, I have made this weekend into a "sort out the golf weekend", so if anyone could advise me of where they think the leak could be sourced, and how i can rectify the problem, i would be much obliged.

sunroof drainage channels probably. open the sunroof and there are two hoses that exit at the rear bumper. check those for blockages. there is loads of info on this forum about it. if you use the search function it'll no doubt give you all you need to know!

Try the rear door window seal (external). This can sometimes shrink causing a gap which can let in water down the inside of the door and drip onto the carpet. A tell tale sign would be a damp door card inside.

Thank you, will check in the morning...im thinking of going to VW and getting myself new window seals...the more im thinking about the silicone, the more im realising what a stupid idea it was lol!

For the front doors on my 16v I paid £16 a piece - gives you an idea I spose'.

aye , ditto that too , my 5 door golf had exactly the same prob , i took of the door card and it was soaked , so was the front door as well , ive temporarly used gaffa tape and trimmed off the lower part of the door membrane , replacing it with the tape. i also ripped out all the floor sound proofing as it was knackered and fell apart when i touched it . ill do a more permanent job when its warmer :p
