if the engine is changed for anything other than a recon. which is the same size and age it becomes very complicated both the mechanics and insurance, a 1.3 probably bout £700 a year bit cheaper maybe if you really shop around, get some quotes, it cant hurt. 1.6 may be pushing it unless you go with someone like co-op insurance, if they still do an under 21 driver scheme( I could get insurance on my renault 19 16v 175 bhp for £1500 when i was 18 still expensive i know but without this scheme I couldnt have got any at all!), where you would drive under your mum/dad or anybody over 25, you can still own the car, do what you want to it but an over 25yr old( older more experience they have the better) needs to be primary name on the insurance certificate, works perfectly for me as my mum is on my dads company insurance so it doesnt bother her if i crash or whatever, her insurance wont be affected anyway! a lot of people driving vw's go with
adrian flux but im happy the way it is thanks!!!

(by the way where you live can really affect insurance rates, as can where the car is kept eg drive, street ect)
