facory immobiliser problem.
« on: 16 December 2006, 21:10 »
You can probably see from my name i own a mk3 golf cabrio. caused me a few problems, none too hard to sort out except this recent one, had dizzy changed as garage suspected a hall sensor problem (£120!) and as I expected this didn't fix the problem as the car was sound WHEN it ran, and is still is fine, WHEN it starts. after lots of reading other peoples problems and a few helpful emails i was right to begin with in thinking it was an electrical/immobiliser fault. now the problem. I'm skint. is there a way to just bypass the ignition decoder thing around the ignition barrel. its not the key transponder by the way, I have tried another key provided with the car. the problem is intermittant but seems to be getting worse, it always starts but not for long (2 secs max) you can rev it, push it, tow it if you wanted i suppose but it wont go! in the summer i wouldn't mind sitting there half hour listening to it die over and over but in the winter its getting pretty old pretty quick.

since no one has replied ill update myself!  i have found the reader coil or the immobiliser control box is the cause, what i was surprised to find is the immobiliser has its own ECU hook up and fault finding codes and kit, have to get this checked. other than that wrapping the data cable in foil!?! may alleviate the problem in the short term.

Since no one else has bothered trying to help ya out... you could try calling some Alarm fitters I had an After Market alarm fitted inc immobiliser and he managed to by pass my factory standard one... Or well at least I think he did perhaps it might be worth trying a few fitters and just asking their advice you never know something might come up..
