My GTI has landed - NOW WITH PHOTOS (see 2nd page)
« on: 16 December 2006, 13:56 »
      8) 8)

Got my new car last night, full spec and some pics to follow.

Looking for ANY excuse to get out of the house and into the car

When buying my golf the salesman, Mark Walker at Arnold Clark VW in Paisley (who was excellent), said he had a black R32 coming in with leather and DSG (I think) that's done less than 10k miles.  He said he was putting on the forecourt for £22.5k, but would take £22k.

If anyone's interested, I would recommed speaking to Mark. I found him to be very helpful and pleasant, and he was willing to go out of his way.

I've put his details in the Good Guys section.

Thanks Illyun.  I wanted a black one but the way things worked out I ended up with tornado red.  I like the red though, and the missus is smitten with it.

Also, I had a tornado red Mk II (1.6 diesel), which is now off the road at my parent's house, so it's kinda nice to get another red one.

The 1.6 diesel was sooooooooooooo slooooooooooooow :embarassed:  but I was a student and I got it for free .  It did the job for a couple of years, and had racked up almost 140k miles when I put it off the road.  And the engine was still going strong, bodywork was fooked though.

Here's the old tractor.  I like to think she's been put out to pasture, like a retired racehorse.

Thanks mate, new car is making me

The old Mk II was very reliable.  Unfortunately by the time I got it, it was already looking a bit, erm, rough around the edges shall we say?

Now it's been sitting at the folks house in the Highlands taking all that the Scottish weather can throw at her.  I reckon if I stick a new battery in her she'll start though.

Neaty - the MK II diesel engine is bullet proof, and v economical for an old lump.

I regularly used it on the mway and it would cruise at 80, 90 was a bit of a struggle mind.  Also, the steering gives you a good upper body work-out around town.

I meant to do the photos today but was too busy, so I'll try and get them done next weekend.

Illyun - I think I will stick to the Mk V.  It's a tad quicker than my old work horse
