sounds like you may have another small problem, its a 1.6 which isnt that small but mine is a 1.8 and i get 40 miles to a FIVER and my car before was a very large mitsubishi again a 1.8 and that got again about 40 miles to a fiver.you should be getting a lot more than that especially as yours is newer than mine. you said you dont smell petrol so that rules out leaks or the car running rich, so myself i am at a bit of a loss if the car is fine in every other way. does the auto choke kick off ok when the car warms up, the revs should drop from about 1100 to 800? and on that bit of paper by the exhaust there was nothing else, do it again when the car is warm and look real close for any rainbow type pattern or anything at all. other than this have it ECU checked (not at stealership!) and get a reputable independant specialist to give it a good looking over but dont get anything done without researching it a bit yourself first either here or google, wasting money sucks ass.

ermmm i dont rli smell petrol but i could smell somthing, but not always....

also there was little black specs on the paper....not sure what that is

my car was low on oil (light flashed earlier) so put that in....

im really stumped....i 4t it was draining petrol b4 because i kept the revs on from stopping the car from cutting out

and my revs 99% of the time sit at 900....dont really ever sit over 1000

this help you at all mate??

when the oil is low it will use more fuel as there will be more friction i suppose, wouldnt have thought it would make that much difference though if any. if black specs is all there is then its just burning some oil or could be coke buildup in the exhaust and/or engine but neither of these should give you that much trouble unless its loads, blue smoke like i said the other day is a bad oil burning problem. did you say you had a bit of a leak too? no like rainbow colours or anything else on the paper?  the choke could be stuck on ( this ups the revs when cold started and adjusts the mixture of fuel and air) this could cause excess fuel useage but if it was the idle would be unsteady when warmed up and you would usually smell fuel.but you cant smell any fuel so i dont know where its all going! if it ticks over and pulls ok now then i dont really know what to suggest except what i said yesterday just checking it at a vw specialist(, not dealer!) there should be one near you, normally is.

i dont think there was no rainbow pattern just black specs,

ive topped up oil now..

i put a tenna in the other day, ive got 60 miles out of it so far and the light wants to come on so bad lol, driving normally changing just over 2000rpm and the odd occasional bit of red lining.. so i guess thats 30mpg but i want more lol because that would only mean around 250 on a tank and i should have 300..

ive brought redex fuel injecter 2 doses because in another tread its said to clear up the engine abit..

im going to buy my own vagcom aswell..should have it by new years, and hopefully start up a little "business" to get some extra cash...

lets see how far my tenna gets me 2mr lol

thats still pretty rough (60miiles to a tenner), redex is ok, too watery nowadays though, it used to be like treacle, if you can get some direct into the engine and some in the petrol you may notice some difference, if you put it direct into the engine expect loads of smoke! and you will need to rev it as you tip it in or it will die but it will really do its job if you can get it straight in, it used to go in the carbs but i dont know about injectors, it should say on the bottle if you got a big one.
