Hi Guys im back with 1.8T but one small prob!
« on: 15 December 2006, 19:02 »
Guys

After a 3 year absence Im back with a 3 door 02 VW Golf GTI 1.8T badboy - initial thoughts - got some decent mid range pull and the drive is very smooth.  However, the suspension is a little on the soft side but I think I notice it more as I used to have a MR2 and that has very very stiff suspension.

Ok I have a problem.... hence why im here.

I have a wind noise coming into the car after speeds of about 70 plus.  I initially thought it may be the bonding on the windscreen but I have ruled this out after having this changed this morning.  I think it is either coming in through the mirrors or the doors.  This is because when im driving and I bring my head to the windscreen the noise seems to intensify.  I have put silicone on the door seals for a better seal but cant see anything obvious that could be wrong?

1.  Can air get into the cabin through the mirrors?
2.  Is there anything obvious to look for near the doors?
3. Where else could I look on the car for dodgy seals?

Please help its driving me mad!    :undecided:

Regards

My car sometime's has wind noise at around 85 onwards. It seems to pull the top of the door outwards. It doesn't seem to happen on the five door so i reckon it could be due to the weight of the longer door on the three door model??

Hi Guys

I have had the windscreen replaced by RAC Windscreens and the technician did tell me the guy who replaced it didnt square it up exactly but has said it is definetly fitting square now.  So me feeling all happy took it for a blast and to my annoyance the the wind noise is still there

Stu has just suggested that there maybe a design flaw on the 3 door model?  Im gonna cover various panel parts with masking tape and take the car for a rip to see if I can try and locate it.  It is so annoying at high speed to hear wind noises on such a great car.

Anyone got any further suggestions on what to try?

thanks
