Paint protection on GTI
« on: 15 December 2006, 17:57 »
How do I protect my new paintwork especially at front of car and top of rear bumper which has no protection. I understand VW do protective film for rear. Any good?  Has anyone experience of any of the ventureshield otr other pattern protective films?  Does fitting mud flaps reduce dirty spray along front or rear of sills or slows rear hatch muddying up?

I haven't got my GTi yet, but my dealer advised against VW's protective film as it apparently peals in the sun. i am however fitting mudflaps to mine as they have in the past helped keep dirt and chips at bay.

you might want to consider an A-Glaze paint treatment, its quite pricey (say £300-400)and can only be done at certain dealers. But basically it puts down a protective polymer onto the car. I recently had this done, and even though I've got a 10 year old car, its made the paint work look really good and brought back the colour, whilst protecting it from most everyday things. A-Glaze are so confident about that, they'll provide a guarantee against things like bird poo, railway fallout, etc...

Deos A-Glaze help with stone chips? I'm having the Autoglym treatment which i assume is similar to A-Glaze?

Mud flaps (£54) do a good job, and insist the dealer fits them free of charge.

My dealer refused to fit them on my new car!! Cheeky or what. So I'm buying them supply only but if they screw up anything along the way I'll be insisting they're fitted.

Thanks for tip on VW film peeling.  I will talk to local dealer re this.  Do mudflaps have to be OEM or are there 3rd party suppliers out there?  I have seen advert recently for bumperbibs that look as though they might save the rear from scratching.  On the paintwork front I use autoglym extra gloss on top of resin polish to ward off atmospheric damage.  Has no one had any experience of ventureshield films ?

I'm interested in this and was going to buy the film for the boot lip, as my mrs keeps lugging her suitcase in and out of it and its scratched the GT TDi quite badly.
