HELP !

I am planning on driving my R32 to the south of Spain and looked into what I have to do to get my headlights road legal over there. I assumed that I would just have to fork out £4 to £5 as before for some stickers. Then I found out that you cannot use these as the Mk5 headlight shapes do not have any stickers that work with them. No problem I thought as I had heard that you can buy headlight protectors that do the same job - can't cost more than £20-35 I thought. So I rang the dealer and was told that the headlight protectors can't be used either as the xenons generate too much heat. Solution? You have to flick a lever on the back of the headlight. Cost? £147 to change to Euro-spec and another £147 when you come back to change to UK-Spec!!! Its all in the labour cost as its 2 hours labour taking the grill and stuff off. So VW are basically saying that it will cost almost £300 to allow me the privilege of driving in Europe. I cannot believe that they did not consider this when installing the xenons on this model. I will be ringing and writing to VW customer services as this cost is unacceptable and I think there is a safety issue here too because the work will be done in Ipswich and then I will be driving down to Dover and blinding drivers on the opposite side of the road as my xenons will be Euro-spec.
I am considering doing this myself. Is it easy to remove the grill - I feel a bit apprehensive as it is a brand new car and what worries me is that I do not want to damage the xenon units by doing something that I shouldn't

I've done it on an Audi. Not too hard just fiddly, and you have to remember where the levers were when you started!

Euro-spec wont cause any problems over here BTW as beam is "flat" - you will see what I mean when you do it!
