It's grey but which grey

I've just got myself a C reg mk2 golf gti 1.8i 8v!!!
Trouble is it needs some light body work done and i don't know what paint i need as the colour code plate is missing.
All i can tell you is that it's matallic grey dose anyone know what the colour is called or know the colour code for the car and year stated???? ???

look under the carpet in the boot. it usually says the paint colour there

Looked from bumper to bumper, No plate/sticker or anything that refers to colour code or paint name...Thanks though!

Find your chassis number, or number plate should do it, then ask VW.

If all the stickers are missing then it sounds like it's been resprayed, but your VIN plate should still have the colour code AFAIK.

Sometimes you will find the build spec on a sheet of paper tucked underneath the carpet under the drivers seat - worth a look ?

But you could consider these 2 other options?

1. Ring up VW HQ customer relations in Milton Keynes. I'm sure if you quote the VIN number to them they will tell you what the original colour of your car was when it left the factory ?

2. Let's be honest- at that age it's likely that your car's colour will have faded - a large reputable re-spayer will use an electronic colour analyser to determine precisely what colour your car is now so it's not too important to know what the original colour was since it won't be that precise colour now ? regards, yt.

The only problem is if its been resprayed, was it sprayed the same colour?  It might have been day-glo orange when it left the factory ;)

I had a look on my ETKA and the only grey colour listed for the model year '85/'86 is atlas grey which has the paint code P7V.
