It didnt pass the mot some help needed.
« on: 11 December 2006, 16:04 »
Hi, Car didnt get a new mot today  :'(

It needs a steering column top bearing. Now how are these changed ?  I have been on the euro/ gsf car parts webb sites and there dont list the bearing is it a main dealer part only ?

The front suspension cross member is excessively corroded. Now I have found a good one in a breakers yard but its from a 1300 golf will it the same as the gti one ?

and the last thing is the co level is to high 6.28% needs to be 3.50%, What could be the cause of this ? I was thinking the blue temp sensor ?

Thanks ED

Steering column top bearing is a steering wheel of job I think the bearing is part of the lock assembly. http://www.iol.ie/~kilkennyhockey/BentleyManual/SU01/ch7.html

Main suspension and steering page http://www.iol.ie/~kilkennyhockey/BentleyManual/SU01/index.html

I think the crossmember will be different but not sure.

CO level could be blue temp sensor might be overfuelling the engine worth a try.

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

When did you last change the air filter element? If its dirty then replacing it could help to bring your CO% down.

Is your car Kjet or Digifant?

1. Its part of the ignition lock housing, not a seperate part.  Job isn't going to be easy cos of the column spline adaptor, either use a good set of pullers or tap the end of the column with a hammer (thread the nut on to protect the threads) the column will colapse and the adaptor will pop off, then extend the column again & swap the ign lock housing.
You need to drill a small hole in it to swap the lock over, but thats all covered in the above link.

2. All MK2 subframes are the same :)

3. Replace the blue temp sender, then follow my digifant tuning guide in the MK2 maintenance + info section.  If you don't have a timing light and/or a CO meter, print it out and hand it over to the local garage so they set it up properly!

I have got the column apart but the bearing seams to be OK, So I am going to take the ignition housing down to the mot station and get them to show me how its excessively worn.
