Hi,

What qualifies as altering the car enough so you have to notify your insurance company about the changes ?

Example, I guess changing alloys doesnt count and tuning the engine does but what about induction kits, suspension etc ?
Virtually everything I know about the workings of the internal combustion engine can be written on the back of a small stamp with a large marker

ANY change should be declared to your insurance company. Even things like lights / grilles etc... the more you tell them the better it is if you have to claim. The last thing you want is to have some idiot hit you and then you don't get anything because the insurance company didn't know about your alloys or that you've lowered the car.

Yep EVERYTHING!
Most mods shouldn't make a difference to your premium, unless they improve the performance.  For a ss zaust I'd say it was bought as a longer lasting equivilant to the std zaust, not performance.  As long as it has the same number of silencers as per OEM, it should be fine :)

Yeah, tell them everything. There was a friend of my manager and his car caught on fire. Insurance company didn't give him a penny cz he did not declare the modifications he had done.

Bloody insurance companies, will definately tell them. Last thing you want is them disputing any claim. Will make sure I make the value of the car up a bit when I say how much its worth

You really need to make sure you go with a specialist if you are modding the car. They will tend to be more easy going with mods. Bear in mind that unless you have an "agreed value" on your insurance it does not matter how much you tell them the car is worth, chances are they will still pay you the "book price" anyway!

Cheers Martin,

I think someone recommended you to me a month or so ago but I had already sorted my insurance.
