Fuel Filling a mk1 Gti Cab
« on: 16 January 2004, 16:44 »
Please can anyone tell me if they have problems when filling up?
I.E. immediate kick back from the fuel filler neck.
If so can they advise as to how to fix it?
Cheers, ???

I cant say I have noticed that I have had more of a problem on my cab, than on any other car I have owned. Some pumps cut out, some dont. It all depends on how far you insert the pump into the filler neck.

I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

Cheers for the reply, tried the idea of pumps and even made an adaption to funnel the fuel from outside the filler pipe, but still the same problem....wandered if it could be something to do with the breather pipe?? Any idea's on how to sort the breather pipe out?

I've never had a problem with my cabrio. Depending on where I go, I sometimes have to change the angle or relax the trigger but it gets there in the end.........no different to any of my other VW-Audi's to be honest.

Mine fills up fine.. But the last 5 litres i usually get loads of 'kick back'

I just let it trickle in slowly or dont fill it right up!!

Its easy enough to take the filler neck and breather out and take a look.

I think it depends on the garage you go to as some of them have faster pumps that make the shut off valve on the nozzle operate.

I find BP's are the ones for hassle filling up.
