Induction Kit Type?
« on: 08 December 2006, 23:40 »
I have an early model Mk3 GTi 8v and am thinking about getting an K&N 57i Induction kit system......

Does anyone know how you can tell what type of air mass system i would possibly have, or a way of me finding out myself so that i can get the right application for the car.

Thanks for any help that i get

not sure without knowing what year your car is. it should say on it i think anyway?

Is the 57i and enclosed filter or open cone? if it's open, don't do it just replace the panel with a k&n one and get  a deecent cold air feed.

your air mass system should be bosch but like monkeyalan says just use a panel filter in your airbox with cold feed pipe to it ,but speeking from experience just use a original vw filter as performance filter  make hardly if any differance to performance on mk3 8vand use more fuel.

how much difference ,fuel wise d'ya reackon? I fitted a k&n + 70mm airfeed at the same time. I might try putting a paper filter in for a feww weeks and see if it makes any difference.

on my old preg 8v with k&n panel filter i used to see 25mpg then got rid of it and put original vw 1 in and was back to 35mpg ,even on my 16v they drink fuel so i just use original vw now.

Thanks for your help monkeyalan and carl,

Ive discovered that the Air Mass Sys is a bosh one!
I think that ill try it just with a cold air feed and see if that makes any major differences, if not ill get pannel filter and see what the difference is as its gotta make some difference rite?

Thanks for your help lads

Ill post bk and let ya know how it goes
