Not Happy......

Hi Guys,
Tell you what it is, i have a 97 P 8V Gti 5 Door with 79K and have to admit that i am quite scared to boot it it up and go in to corners with a bit of speed as the arse of the car seems to want to kick out.
It may be down to the fact i am not used to the car yet as i have only had it about 3 weeks, but it seems not right to drive. It had passed it's MOT 2 days before i picked it up so everything under the bodywork seems in order.
Please help as i want to get to the back of this before the bad weather sets in

have  you checked the tyres have enough air in them should be about 32 on rear ,and if not if youve only just had the car and someones done a quick mot check the rear axle bushes as they are a common repair on the mk3 ,if not them 2 try shocks aswell or might be all 3,or crap tyres.

I had a similar problem with my mk3 and it turned out to be a faulty rear shocker!!!! And it passed it's m.o.t with the knackered one. atI first i relaced the rear bushes as my garage said the shocker worked as it should but with new bushes it was still rear happy/scarey at speed.

my dads was partial to a sort of skip too when going through corners, problem solved when he replaced the rear shocks

Thanks for the replies. Is it worth fitting just the two back shocks??? or fit all four at the same time.
Is it worth fitting some uprated ones or stick to the original V W ones???
It is the same old thing that it comes back to is money....
If i went for some uprated ones which make and price am i looking at???

you can spend as little or as much as you want. If your goin to do any suspension changes id recomend uprated or lowered springs and shocks. Get it done in one swoop. The mk3 isnt exactly known for its amazing handling so a good kit will help make the difference. If money allows then invest in coilovers. Cant really help with brands etc as Iv got very little experience of whats what but im sure there are plenty more people in the mk3 section with the knowledge u need.
