fuel question for the mechanics....
« on: 16 January 2004, 14:08 »
my 8v is running too rich / over fueling...

I know i should take it to a garage and get a proper CO test...

but , is it not possible to a do a simple small tweek of the mixture adjustment screw? you know, just a couple of degrees in one direction?

If you don't want to get a co tester, go to halfords and buy a gunston colortune. Only about 15 quid.

interesting!? whats that then? a do it yourself CO test??

i know it's running rich,  this kit will help me sort it out will it?

just one more question - the mixture (CO content) adjustment screw,  turning clockwise(positive) is it adding more air? and is this thus leaning off the mixture?? :P ???

The colortune is like a spark plug with a window on it, adjust the mixture until the combustion colour is blue with tints of orange in it. Do the adjustment when the engine is warm. It does work better doing the test in the dark!

Not over Rhayader, Llandridod Wells way are you? I quite often find myself over there due to Hazels Mum and Dad living in Rhayader and my ex and my older 2 boys living in Llandrindod.

would a gunston work in a 16v with the spark plugs being so deep down in the head?

if its overfuellling then there will be a plum of black smoke come out of the exhaust on an upchange due to unburnt fuel hitting the exhaust manifold
