Not been using it since the leicester meet mainly cos it had a paddy on the way back, and made lots of strange noises. Investigated the engine bay a few weeks back and noticed that the alternator belt was having a serious case of mr floppy. Fair enough i thought, i will just tighten it up when i can be bothered.

Went out this afternoon. It's bloody eaten the tensioner for the alternator belt.   took me a bastard age to get off, and now i need to go hunting for one before next weekend.  Otherwise i canna afford to get home for me DJ Shadow gig.   makes me a angry panda.

^^ This part if anyone has one laying around off a 1.9tdi 80. (or knows of anyone with one)

I think you need to give up owning cars and just walk everywhere. All your cars seem to do is break all the time... :lipsrsealed:

Good luck finding the bit you need though mate, nothing worse than having the motor go t!ts up when you have places to be and no spare cash...
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

Aye but they want silly money for it.

Going to be ringing gsf, as they have something which sounds like it, but not entirely sure if it is it or not, will have a word from them. Just wondered if anyone knew someone breaking one.

Doesn't look dissimilar to my TDI tensioner. Have you tried cross referring it with some Golf/Seat/Skoda engines? Might give you some more options at the scrappy :undecided:

What has actually broken up? is it the tensioner roller?
If it is then that is fitted to the mk3 golf diesel engine, passat, audi a6, and some 4 cylinder petrol engines as well.
You need to find the source of the problem, i think the tensioner should be an automatic spring loaded type, has this failed as well?
Unfortunately Len might be right for once, when the belt was loose it should of got sorted. Oh well you will know for next time
If you want the full list of cars that the roller fits then let me know, or if its a different part then i'll do a search for you.

The following mk3 engines have that tensioner arrangement....
AAM,ABS,ADZ,ABF,AEK,AEP,2E,ABU,AEA,ACC

2E is 8v gti and ABF is 16v gti.

You should have more luck finding one of them, or try vw.
