Just had a look on our computer system (which goes from 1-50 not 1-20 like most) and the lowest was the mk1 1.6 gti & the mk4 1.8 20v NON turbo both at grp 26 (compared with grp 32 for the mk2 8v) so about a grp 10 using the other scale  :nerd:

Wow!

How can that be Martin? I have never checked my Golf but last time I checked my 405 Mi16 that was a group 14!

So is your 1-50 the same as the 1-20 up to 20 or a totally different scale????
Mystic Blue Mk3 16v + Black Mk5 Gti 05 plate + Peugeot 405 Mi16

not all insurers use the same 1-20 scale which is why i can be a little misleading sometimes, im not 100% sure why we use 1-50 but i thought its something to do with allowing us to be more specific on the group Eg a group 20 with some companies may only be a 46 or 48 with us rather than the highest!

That said i think its roughly the same sort of scale anyway cos just looked at the Mi16 and that came up grp 32 on our system same as the mk2 8v, which are both grouped as 14 by the majority of compaines.

cheeky i know, but any chance you can do a list of the various mk's and their HIC ins. groups martin? could be a useful reference point for prospective buyers. (+ im also curious as to which group a rallye comes under on your system  )

I will see what i can do.... (may take a while tho cos it means me running through a quote on each model on tpft & comp to get the group!).

The only thing (and this makes it really confusing) is with us, the group changes with the cover too eg Rallye TPFT is grp 40, Comp is 44 (+ a load for LHD if applicable)!

no, the 1.6ltr version of the mk1 & the non turbo 1.8 mk4 are the lowest groups......however there are other factors too eg the value of the vehicle etc which can make a difference too eg a low value higher grp car can come out cheaper than a high value lower group!!
