I hope someone can help me.
I've just bought a 16v 2.0 Mk3 from a frind of mine quite cheaply as it has an engine problem and I'm hoping someone mght be able to help me diagnose what's wrong.
This is the fault.
The car starts fine and drives normally. It fels a little rough in normal driving, but does accellerate fairly smoothly.
If the car has been driving at a reasonable speed for a while (say at 70mph for about 1/2 hour) it starts to misfire and then will eventualy cut out completely.
After stopping for about 1/2 hour, it starts again fine and drives OK for about another 1/2 hour, then the problems re occur.
As far as I know, the coil was changed about a year ago, as were the leads. The cat could apparently do with changing as it rattles when tapped, an RAC man suggested this may be part of the problem.
The lambda sensor has also been blamed for what's happening.
I'm getting the car in a couple of days and need to get it sorted out as my wife will be driving it quite a lot and it needs to be ok.
I haven't had much experience of these engines, most of my experience is in older air cooled dubs, which doesn't really help much!
If anyone could make any suggestions as to what may be likely, then it would be very much appreciated.
I will continue reading through the forum to try and answer my own question, but with limited knowledge, it's often difficult to assertain what is relevant or not.
