when your going to take the sump of, make sure you attempt the sump nut in between the gearbox housing.. majority of sockets are too wide to get up into it. and it can be very annoying if you undo them all only to find you can get the final one off!!!

but yeah pickup pipes can get clogged up. thats what caused mine to go into meltdown this time last year!!

get the gearbox dust cover plate off and invest in some wiggle extensions, its the only way!

my friend i had the same problem with you!inside the oil tank (sump) at the bottom of the engine there is plastic cover which separates the oil and keep it down from the crankshaft!this could break into pieces and block the oil pump!but the only way to find out is to take the sump of!

Thread update: Took the sump off at the weekend and found a shocking amount of large carbon deposits clogged up round the mesh and sitting about in the sump. Dug all the cr@p out from round the mesh then gave it a soak/blast with some degreaser, wiped the sump out and got it looking all shiny. All back together and after a 20mile blast no more oil pressure woes :)

After seeing all the cr@p in the sump I'll definately be adding a pump/sump cleanup to the list of jobs I'd like to do to my motor when I get a minute. For the sake of £8 for a gasket it's gotta be a good idea.
