DSG box - reversing lag
« on: 29 November 2006, 21:56 »
I've recently noticed a power lag when reversing on my DSG GTI, if you gently push the gas pedal, nothing happens, you have to push it further than on a manual car to get it to move.

Is this a safety feature or just my imagination?  I recently drove a manual diesel passat for a few days and it didn't do that!  I'm new to the DSG box and haven't really ever driven autos.

Your thoughts please.

There is, and you haven`t, (so don`t be!).

DSG `box is fine once you`re underway, but I can`t seem to pull away without a chirping
from the tyres. Fronts have just been renewed at 12k, but the rears still have plenty left in them.
The novelty of the DSG has now worn off, it`ll soon be back to a manual for me, and I`ll tell you why -

The lack of engine braking with this type of `box doesn`t suit my driving style at all.
I prefer to be quite firm on the brakes and then use quick downshifts to determine the ideal gear for the corner. The tiny `in gear` display is a bloody hopeless in this situation, and I`ll often arrive in too high a gear because the `box won`t change down quickly enough.

DSG absolutely hates hot weather. Last summer, changes were taking an age. (I think Doc agreed at the time).

Jerking. (Steady everyone). Try easing down on a slip road to about 30, then up the revs as you engage second. It hates that.You nearly get strangled by your seatbelt. Same thing when you drop three gears, the `box really needs to have a good long think.

Almost all of my driving is done in paddle mode. Sure, I`ll miss the luxury of an auto when I`m in a
jam...............but not half as much as I miss having a manual gearbox when there`s country lanes to be had.

The display is crap - I have said this before but VW need to have a page in the fuel computer that only shows the gear ie 1 2 3 in MASSIVE writing!

1 = 1

r = R
