My First GTi
« on: 26 November 2006, 21:52 »
Hello fellow dubbers,

I have just purchased my first Golf GTi and she's a beauty!

1997 P Reg 8v in Red, (3dr) 65,000 Miles, Full VWSH, Totally Original and all for £1900 - BARGAIN.

She runs like a dream and although not the fastest thing I've ever driven (my other ride is a Suzuki GSXR 600) it's great to finally sample some well built German engineering. You can alway's rely on the Gemans! (Jens Lehman, Legend)!!!

Anyway I have a couple of things with her that I would like to sort and hope anyone out there can point me in the right direction.

1. Wing mirror covers? Where the hell can I get some replacement ones as one is cracked and I don't really want to replace the whole unit seeing as they are removable.

2. Have a slight issue with power steering. When at standstill and not revving at all if I turn the wheel there is a juddering action that immediately stops when you give it a bit of gas. Any ideas?

I shall upload a few pics to look at as soon as the weather improves and I can get the Autoglym out!

Hello and welcome

Try here --------> http://www.vws.me.uk/ for the mirror cover, should have one at least.

With regards to the power steering, have you checked the fluid level? Might be low and the extra revs are needed to up the pressure. Also check the belt, might be loose or worn. Where abouts are you in the country as I'm sure there will be garages that are near you that are VW friendly and don't rip you off and peeps from here can recomend
