Knocking from Back Wheel...
« on: 23 November 2006, 17:38 »
Hi Guys, Well where do i start!!!!
Yesterday i picked up my 97 P Golf GTI 8V and had about an 1hr drive home, the car had passed the MOT just 2 days ago also a new timing belt fitted. So you can picture the moment when i got the keys....
Well i was no longer than 10-15min into my journey home when i heard this knocking noise from the back passenger wheel. Then it went away and came back again, so i thought to my self i was just hearing things, but today the same happened again so went down to my local tyre fitters to ask if i could put the car up on the ramps to have a look. So when up on the ramp i had a loose heat shield but thought that it could not be this, then the tyre fitter noticed that there was a round rubber bushing at the back of the disk brake and this you could spin very easily so i tried the opposite one and this was solid.
If this car has passed the MOT should this not have been checked!!!
Could this be causing the knocking noise??? :undecided:

not sure about the bush but try putting the rear part of the back seat down and seeing if the noise is still there.

my rear passenger sdie  was making making a noise that sounded ass if it was coming from the rear wheel well area.

alos check all you exhaust rubbers are in good condition as they caused a similar problem for Len on here.

Knocking from the wheels tends to point to the suspension bushes having worn. Classic symptom. If this is the case, why it wasnt spotted in the MOT I dont know, But shouldnt cost too much in time or money to fix.

Sorry to thread jack but can anyone tell me if the rear shocks have a top bush?? Cos mine has started to knock like mad and im sure its coming from the top of the rear sussy strut in the boot

Btw, its lowered and has Boge turbo gas shockers which have a lifetime guarantee. But as i dont have the bills or receipts for the shocks im sure they'd just tell me to piss off if i tried to claim!!!!! Though you'd expect a life time guarantee would mean whoever whatever and whenever no mater if you have the bills or not!!!
