VR6 Electric Windows

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Drive a 96 VR6 Highline which I've owned for 10 years. Been a great car but the 200K mileage is starting to tell, various things are starting to croak. Last weekend I replaced the aux water pump, nasty little £70 electric motor that sits behind the engine. Various other stuff changed over the last 3 years include battery, shocks, springs, ABS pump recon, Cat, exhaust. The list goes on. But I'm still really happy with the car. Its relatively rust free but like the mechanics it starting to show its age.
Anyway, enough of the history, latest problem is that when I was coming out of the company carpark my drivers door jammed in the down position, bummer, its was bl0ddy cold that day, got home and stripped the lot out. Once of the floor the motor attempts to wind up but the mechanism sounds like its chewing something then it stops. To be fair its been a bit hit and miss for the last couple of years and have greased it in situ to try and sort it. Replacement unit, motor and mechanism is a bit pricey. Having rung round the local scrappies, its one of the first items that go on Mk3s. Any ideas for fix? Anyone breaking a car with a complete unit?

Welcome to the nut house

the only way to check is to get the motor out of the door and wind it up

Common mk3 fault. My drivers side window went a couple of months back, and they seem to be like rocking horse sh*t to get hold of! I was offered one for about £80 second hand off of a '95 car (so that could give up any time). In the end I bought a new one from Andrew Page electrical http://www.andrewpage.com/, for about £130. Peace of mind with having a new one. Some cheaper aftermarket ones don't have the one press up/down mechanism and pressure sensors, but the one I got does!
