Alright everyone,

As per my recent post, IÂ’ve put 18Â’Â’ RS4s on and my MPG has reduced a lot, I only got like 380 miles from a full tank, IÂ’ve got a GT TDi PD130, I normally got 480+ ish.

Around town my average is 30mpg and motorway its 35-38ish.

Could the fact that I need a service have anything to do with this?

Cheers

could be.  my MPG has gone down slightly and i also need a service; still getting 450 + though on 3/4 on a tank.

your wheels won't help matters either as they are heavier than the orginals.  Therefore you are carrying more weight and your MPG will suffer.  Shouldn't affect it that drastically though :undecided:

Give it a good service and check everywhere for signs of leaking pipes etc.  Have you noticed a drop in performance?

Nope, the performance is fine, may have dropped a little, but as the extra weigh, I have to get used it to, but not much.

It's due a service, not sure what i'm looking for, but no signs of any leaks or smells.

I've only had it 6 weeks, what would VW charge for a decent service?

Last service at 60k and it's on 66 and saying service due in 1400mi.

Cheers

i dropped around 5 mpg on my gt tdi 130 by putting 18" r32 alloys on, i went to skegness at the weekend, its about 90 mile from my house, a good mixture of dual carriage way, fast back roads and slow villages averaged, 46 mpg on the way there and 50 mpg  on the way back. did you fit the wheels yourself? have they been balanced? tracked??

or the most obvious thing that noone has mentioned yet.. what size tyres have you got on them? if your rolling radius has increased the speedo will be off, and so will odometer.. so that you're actually doing more miles than are being displayed.

Hey guys,

I went to a friends garage yesterday and he checked my ecu for fault codes, it had 0 faults.

I got my alloys from Wheel Base and the guy said its the same rolling radius, the size is 225/40/18 with Toyo TS-1s, they were balanced and tracked.

Today on the motorway, I was reading 48mpg, which is a big improvement, i didn't go over 80mph, i don't normally anyway.

This might be a silly question, but how should these cars be driven?

Your tyre size is correct- this will give you a near enough identical overall diameter to the original 195 x 65 15's but they are slightly wider.

Interesting topic though, I am thinking about getting some R32 alloys myself.

With standard alloys and on a motorway/A road/town driving route of about 30 miles I get 50mpg if the road is quiet and I get the chance to get past slow traffic.

On the same route when its busy and I am driving in convoy between 40 and 50 mph on the A roads, I can get up to 60 mpg.

On my route to work which is a quiet country road but up and down hills, going into work where the land generally rises although you are still up and down alot, mpg is anything from 40 - 43mpg, the same route coming home with a natural decline to sea level, although again hilly usually 46 -48mpg so it does vary alot.

Cheers guys for all your feedback,

Since the service yesterday, I can more than feel the difference, the turbo in lower gears doesnÂ’t feel like it did before, it really pulls and my mpg around town has increased to around 40mpg~

I will keep an eye on my mpg as IÂ’m going to London this weekend, so will keep you posted with the results.
