help!!! gear problems

its a 5-speed, mk3 1.4 96

ive been having trouble selecting gears, i can get it into all gears with a lot of effort and struggle, 1,2,3 and reverse are an absolute pig ! i cant drive it, its got so bad

any ideas?

Have you done any work on the car at all ??

My gear linkage was stiff and after checking I found the main rod that comes from the gear lever was semi-seized where it goes through the rubber bush in the engine bay. sprayed it with WD40 and got some grease on it now.

Although from reading the symptoms it goes sound like an alignment issue

I'd check all the linkages etc Could be a gearbox/linkage alignment issue otherwise.
