GT TDi 140 - looking different from official pics?
« on: 18 November 2006, 18:07 »
Hi All,

I was looking at the VW website today and made an interesting observation whilst looking at the picture of the GT TDi.

Am I imaging this or does the one of the website look more lowered than mine?

The red car in the first picture is a GT TDI 170 - a new model

The "old" mk5 GT TDI 140 is now the called the SPORT

Hope this helps

Hi,

How can you tell it's the 170? and should this make a different to the appearance of the car with relation to ride height?

Looking at the VW website my model (with the GT badges on) still shows under the GT category. They do make the sport version but this has less cosmetics.

Main point is, does it matter? Each press released car is going to look sportier than it does in real life, as each one is given the photoshop treatment before going out for general release to the public.

this is probably obvious, but many years ago when I worked in TV commercials, we were doing an advert for a well known family hatch and the first thing they did was to weight down the car with sand bags and then have the windows tinted.  so appearances aren't always what they seem!

Yup - bags of sand.. Unfortunatley a common thing in the auto industry.

Common practice of the blue oval - whose products usually seem too high in real life (puma for example)

golfdude - Does it have TDI or GT on the tailgate?

Can we have a picture of your steering wheel please?

Cheers

BLUE OVAL used to do that a lot! Then the cars came and looked like they were on stilts!

on the new GT the only visible difference between the 140 and 170 is that the 170 has a twin exhaust pipe.

the rest is the same cosmetically I think

corret - my car is badged front and rear with 'GT' chrome logos and the steering wheel has a metal logo the same at bottom center.
