hi can any 1 tell me how to wire up i vdo voltmeter in my golf gti mk1 thanx ian

Here you go - See this link for details on a company that not only sell gauges but provides technical documents on there site to show you how to install all types of gauges for VW's

look round the back of your fusebox, there are 2 groups of spare spade terminals.  One side is live, the other ignition live, run a spade to an ignition live terminal.  There is also an earth 'claw' close to the fusebox, earth your guages here :)
