I've got a 96 16v GTI and have AmD in Bicester do thier thing on it. I have a K&N 57i filter, powerflow centre section and a Siebring rear box and have got 176bhp and 157ft/lbs from this set up.
The low down power is massively increased and the top end flys. My friend has a 2004 Celica GT 190 and there is nothing between us on a 0-100 run (Castle coombe) with me edging away from 60+. I also get 40+ mpg on a 50-60mph run through the twisties and 38+mpg on a 80mph motorway run.
Well worth the money...but don't be tempted by cheap chips as they can properly f**k your car up. Mine had a full rolling road diagnosis first and was set up on the rollers and the road

I've got one of those cheap as chips, chips. £30 eBay. I can't say its bad, but I can't say its made a big diff in power. What I can say is that it's smoothed out the power band, i.e. no dead spots around 2.5k-3k which I had on standard ecu and also the power kicks in around 3k rpm compared to around 4k before.
