My car failed its MOT yesterday....
« on: 15 November 2006, 10:45 »
So why the thumbs up

It wasn't a real MOT, the tester was me  I went though the full list and all I could find wrong was a little play in one of the rear bearings, so it'll only need a small adjustment

I'm taking a halfday today to go and sort it out, then its off for the real MOT on Saturday, well unless I can get Friday off

I normally find I'm more strict than the MOT testers  :undecided:  its is my car afterall, and I know better than anyone what I get up to in it, so it has to be safe

So you have access to emmissions testing equipment then?
Lucky you!

 No thats one of the things I can't test for, along with headlight alignment - but my MOT dude will sort those for free if they're out anyway  :smug:

:undecided: There could be some rot underneath that I've missed as I don't have a pit so its just up on axle stands but thats very unlikely - last MOT the bloke couldn't stop going on about how much better it was underneath than the car before me - an "M" reg mazda      The brakes could be uneven but they feel good, so they probably are

I only failed an MOT once, that was years ago and before I was my own mechanic, to be honest I'd be extreemly embarresed if it did fail on something mechanical as that would mean I'm not maintaining it right, it should pass all year round really :nerd:

I kind of like MOT's, its a nice pat on the back & a well done for the hard work

I asked about headlight alignment coz I didnt see the guy move the beam tester over and was told that they just check it against a line on the wall behind!

....and if it's out they just reverse the car back slightly until it lines up !
