Having been a aircooled dub fanatic as my playthings for 17 years, I've finally gone from tuned Honda cars as dailys to Golfs. (Much better scene than the hondas, its all a code of what you HAVE to do to be cool, lots of attitude etc)

Anyway, I know the ins and outs of a ducks bottom when it comes to my aircooled bugs etc, but this watercooled jargon........ :undecided:

Whats an Edition 1 and Campaign in MK1's and 2's for example.

If someone could clarify that and then any other jargon used in the scene that you may think would help other newbies like me then please add them in.

I feel like I need to get up to speed and know a bit about the new found obsession!

Cheers,
Stu

Edition1's I believe are the original G60's - all left hand drive and a bit of a beast

Campaign's - are a myth, people advertise their cars as a campaign to get a bit of extra money but vw never actually made a campaign model - the cars usually referred to as campaign's are the last ones vw sold and were fitted with all the options as standard, basically to get rid of them as the newer mark was already available  you're better off looking for a good condition example rather than worrying about all this campaign nonsence

What you want is a Mk1 with a mk2 16v engine, then turbo the bugger  thats my game plan  :smug:

mk2 campaigns - do exist - came out in 1988, all small bumpers with rainbow interior & half tint rear lights, and 14" le Castellet alloys. owners handbook says 1 in a million on it

reverted back to normal spec in 1989 before big bumper version was introduced in Aug 89

edition 1's weren't just g60's either.
any of the 'edition' mk2's were for the german market and usually had electric recaro's and a few extra treats as standard. there is edition 1, which i think were only in aubergine and metallic black. there was edition blue, which came with blue interior, carpets etc.... might be wrong on all this but you get the point.
g60 is a supercharged engine, the 'g' standing for g-lader, what vw called their supercharger and the '60' is for 160bhp.
sure there is more to know but i've got a fuzzy head on!

i always thought the 60` Part was the centre bore or a measuremeant to do with the supercharger ,

the polo G40 was so because the the certain measurement was smaller
